Antique Latter 18th Century Georgian Period Memento Mori piece in the form of a hand painted gouache miniature of a Gentleman of the period named 'William J Wert' beautifully detailed and realized in the traditional style the miniature is set beneath original convex glass mounted within a high carat gold frame finished with a halo gallery of Almandine garnets totaling 42 in number.
Originally a fantastic bracelet panel the gold frame to the miniature shows a socket to one side to accommodate a tongue terminal to a bracelet enclosure and to the other a pierced fringe that would have been fitted with a series of ten strings, likely pearls which would have completed the bracelet, quite something to behold indeed in its original state, the reverse to the miniature is also mounted with a gold pin and clasp fitting in good order, present to the reverse is provenance in the form of an engraved legend 'William J Wert' with the Ob date of c1775.
Measuring 4.8 cm x 4 cm the miniature is in superb condition for age and without damages or repairs making this to be a fine addition to any Museum Quality collection.
Although unmarked the gold frame has been tested positive for high carat gold.
